  • The George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest - DEADLINE EXTENDED

    Amount:  Up to $5,000

    To participate, students (grades 9-12) must submit an original 800- to 1,200-word essay based on an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution. Each student's essay will be judged based upon its historical accuracy, clarity, organization, grammar and spelling, and documentation.

    In Alaska, students will first compete at the State level.  The winning essay will then be entered into the National competition where the first place essay will earn $5000, a medal, and a trip to a recognition ceremony.  2 and 3rd place also earn cash awards. 

    State-level awards include $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place with recognition certificates as well as a medal for the first place winner.

    Kenai Peninsula College is offering several tuition scholarships to graduating seniors from the following schools:  Kenai Central High School, Soldotna High School, Nikiski High School, Ninilchik High School, Seward High School, Kenai Alternative High School, River city Academy, Cook Inlet Academy, and Kenai Peninsula Borough residents participating in home-school programs.  This scholarship may be used for attendance during the 2019/2020 academic year at Kenai Peninsula College's, Kenai River Campus (Soldotna) or at their Resurrection Bay Extension Site (Seward).

  • Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Chapter Safari Club International Scholarship

    Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International is a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, humanitarian efforts, and protecting our hunting heritage.  To further these goals, we will award a $4,000 scholarship to a graduation senior from any accredited public or private high school within the Kenai Peninsula Borough.  To be eligible, the student must be accepted into a program of wildlife management or research curriculum in a related field at an accredited college or university and enroll for a minimum of 12 semester hours or full-time equivalent.  A trade school or vocational program in a related discipline will be considered, and future teachers are eligible.

    The Drew Scalzi Memorial Maritime Scholarship was established in 2006 by the North Pacific Fisheries Association and the Scalzi Family in memory of Drew Scalzi. The underlying philosophy of the scholarship is to nurture young adults pursuing their careers in the maritime field or who are from fishing/maritime families. The scholarships can be used to cover the costs of tuition at an accredited college, university or approved technical program. First and foremost Drew was a fisherman, and he firmly believed in helping those who endeavored to advance their knowledge and abilities. Drew also had a love of sports and politics, so in the event there is no qualified scholarship applicant, funds will be directed towards high school level political science or athletic programs, at the committee's discretion.

    The Health Care Providers Scholarship has provided an annual award to lower Kenai Peninsula high school graduates since 1985. In 2006 local health care providers established a permanent endowment at the Homer Foundation to ensure that the scholarship would continue in perpetuity. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students from the lower Kenai Peninsula (Ninilchik south) who are pursuing a career in a health care related field at an accredited professional or technical school. Applicants may apply as a high school graduate or in any given year of their post-graduate studies, but may receive the award only once.

    Amount:  $1,000 - $5,000

    Who:  Freshman, Sophomore, Juniors, Seniors

    Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 each; with multiple winners to be selected.  Each award is a non-renewable, one-time award and is to be used exclusively to offset costs and fees related directly to the student's first year of higher post-secondary education at an accredited institution of he student's choosing within the United States.  In the even an underclassman is an award recipient, the monies will be held by the American College Foundation until the student completes high school and begins their higher education; at which time the award amount will be distributed.
