    Amount:  $1,500

    The Association of Alaska School Boards is proud to announce its 28th Annual Scholarship Award Competition.  The June Nelson Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the late June Nelson, longtime school board remember from Kotzebue.  This 2018-2019 school year, AASB will award fifteen graduating seniors each with a $1,500 scholarship to apply toward their post-secondary education.  The scholarship may be applied toward the student's choice of a business, trade, or a college institution.

  • Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Chapter Safari Club International Scholarship

    Amount:  $4,000 ($1,000 per year for 4 years)

    Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International is a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, humanitarian efforts, and protecting our hunting heritage.  To further these goals, we will award a $4,000 scholarship to a graduation senior from any accredited public or private high school within the Kenai Peninsula Borough.  To be eligible, the student must be accepted into a program of wildlife management or research curriculum in a related field at an accredited college or university and enroll for a minimum of 12 semester hours or full-time equivalent.  A trade school or vocational program in a related discipline will be considered, and future teachers are eligible.

He felt that when he was in school, there were no scholarships for this field of study.     Who:  Homer - Anchor Point area, 16-25 years of age.

    The Drew Scalzi Memorial Maritime Scholarship was established in 2006 by the North Pacific Fisheries Association and the Scalzi Family in memory of Drew Scalzi. The underlying philosophy of the scholarship is to nurture young adults pursuing their careers in the maritime field or who are from fishing/maritime families. The scholarships can be used to cover the costs of tuition at an accredited college, university or approved technical program. First and foremost Drew was a fisherman, and he firmly believed in helping those who endeavored to advance their knowledge and abilities. Drew also had a love of sports and politics, so in the event there is no qualified scholarship applicant, funds will be directed towards high school level political science or athletic programs, at the committee's discretion.

    The Beluga Tail Nonfiction and Beluga Tale Fiction Writing Scholarships are supported through the Tin Roof Fund, a donor advised fund at the Homer Foundation. The Fund provides for up to two $3,000 scholarship awards annually for students with a demonstrated skill and passion for writing. Separate application must be submitted if applying in both categories. The awards may be used for expenses related to continuing education at an accredited two or four year institution, or attendance in a nationally recognized writing program.

    Who:  2019 graduating seniors from Ninilchik, Nikolaevsk, Homer schools, Kachemak Selo, Voznesenka, Razdolna, Port Graham, Susan B English, Nanwalek

    The Health Care Providers Scholarship has provided an annual award to lower Kenai Peninsula high school graduates since 1985. In 2006 local health care providers established a permanent endowment at the Homer Foundation to ensure that the scholarship would continue in perpetuity. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students from the lower Kenai Peninsula (Ninilchik south) who are pursuing a career in a health care related field at an accredited professional or technical school. Applicants may apply as a high school graduate or in any given year of their post-graduate studies, but may receive the award only once.

    The Alain and Daniel Rieser Scholarship is supported through the Tin Roof Fund, a donor advised fund at the Homer Foundation.  The Fund provides one $3,000 scholarship award annually, which may be used for expenses related to attending college for the purpose of continuing foreign language study, or for undertaking a language/cultural immersion experience in a foreign country.

    The participating artists of the Ptarmigan Arts Gallery established the Ptarmigan Arts Visual Arts Scholarship to encourage and assist local high school students to further their education in the visual arts. The Ptarmigan Arts Scholarship is now supported by a permanent fund administered by the Homer Foundation. The recipient/s will be determined at the April 18th, 2018 Ptarmigan Artists meeting where selected applicants will be asked to make presentations. The award will be sent directly to the recipient’s designated art program, school, or vendor.

    The Carl Seaman Scholarship was created in memory of Carl Seaman, who was a businessman and council member in Kenai from the late 1950s to the 1980s.  He was a supporter of Kenai Central High School when it was built in the 1960s.  His son Mike, daughter Carla, daughter-in-law Joan, and granddaughters Julie and Michelle are graduates of KCHS.

    Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 each; with multiple winners to be selected.  Each award is a non-renewable, one-time award and is to be used exclusively to offset costs and fees related directly to the student's first year of higher post-secondary education at an accredited institution of he student's choosing within the United States.  In the even an underclassman is an award recipient, the monies will be held by the American College Foundation until the student completes high school and begins their higher education; at which time the award amount will be distributed.
