KPBSD Golden Apple Award Recognition

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education is proud to recognize Mr. Mike Petersen, Mrs. Kim Reierson, Ms. Barbara Ralston, Grandma Brenda, and Grandma Dee for their dedication to the students, parents, and staff in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.

Golden Apple Awards

The Board of Education bestows Golden Apple Awards to school district employees, volunteers, and community organizations that go to extra lengths to support and advance education. Recipients are honored at a school board meeting with a proclamation and an engraved apple award. District employees, parents, school board members, volunteers, and community members are eligible to make nominations for the award.

“Mike consistently provides strong, respectful leadership to his team and to Project GRAD schools located  in Nanwalek, Ninilchik, Nikolaevsk, Port Graham, Razdolna, Tebughna, and Voznesenka. Ms. Ralston’s lessons are geared toward the needs of all of her students. She is truly a remarkable teacher and willingly shares her knowledge with others. She has taken many a new teacher under her wing and is tireless in providing a patient ear when they need it. Delores  Benner - “Grandma Dee” Community Member

“Grandma Brenda and Grandma Dee are fixtures at Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School. It is commonly said that the year doesn’t officially start until both of these fine ladies start reading with our students. Many Alaskan kids do not have grandparents who are part of their lives on a regular basis. This is not true for students at K-Beach Elementary. Our kids have two grandmas they see almost every day!” Read more…
