Career and Technical Education Student Organization Conference

On January 29, 2015, KCHS hosted the annual regional SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA programs include local, state and national competitions. The theme this year was 50 Years of Champions at Work. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA provides educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE) in the nation’s classrooms.

More than 65 students from Homer High School, Nikiski Middle-High School, Soldotna High School, and Kenai Central High Schools came to compete by demonstrating their technical and leadership skills. The SkillsUSA competition helps students showcase what they’ve learned in the classrooms and in Career and Technical Student Organizations. Guest speaker Ruben Foster kicked the morning off with his keynote. Foster is the District Supervisor for the Alaska Department of Corrections, Kenai Adult Probation-Parole Office.
Thank you to the teachers and staff who organized the conference, the community businesses that participated, competition judges, and Kenai Central High School for hosting this year.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in 2015! The winners for first, second, and third place in each category are:
