  • The George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest
    Expires On: Sunday, January 31, 2021 7:00 PM

    Who:  Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students.

    Amount:  Up to $5,000

    To participate, students (grades 9-12) must submit an original 800- to 1,200-word essay based on an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution. Each student's essay will be judged based upon its historical accuracy, clarity, organization, grammar and spelling, and documentation.

    In Alaska, students will first compete at the State level.  The winning essay will then be entered into the National competition where the first place essay will earn $5000, a medal, and a trip to a recognition ceremony.  2nd and 3rd place also earn cash awards. 

    State-level awards include $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place with recognition certificates as well as a medal for the first place winner.

  • Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Program

    The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Program is designed to address the financial needs of minority college students and provide comprehensive mentoring services through its 42 Strategies for Success Curriculum.  Once chosen from a national, selective process, "Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars" receive a generous four-year grant to assist with the costs of attending the college or university of their choice and are enrolled in JRF's celebrated mentoring curriculum.

  • 2021 VFW Auxiliary's Vicki Webb-Nelson Memorial Scholarship

  • Elks Legacy Award

    Who:  College-bound high school senior who are children or grandchildren (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2018.

    Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships ($1,000 per year for four years) for children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Foundation will offer a total of up to 250 awards, 3 for the state of Alaska.

    The National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp) is a residential science education program for young STEM enthusiasts the summer after they graduate from high school.   • American Legion Auxiliary Unit 16 - Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship - HOMER ONLY

    Fifteen scholarship will be awarded for 2021.  Three scholarships will be awarded in each Division of the American Legion Auxiliary.  All are gift scholarships and not loans.  Candidates for this award shall be daughters, sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion: April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918; and any time after December 7, 1941.

  • Homer Electric Association Scholarship 2021

    Who:  Applicants shall be categorized as “seniors” or “others”. Seniors will be defined as applicants from a public or private secondary school within the HEA service area. Students in the “others” category will be defined as those individuals residing within the HEA service area who have chosen to return to college, trade school, apprenticeship, vocational or technical school after having been out of high school for a minimum of two years since graduation date.

    Homer Electric Association's (HEA) Scholarship Committee will award a number of scholarships for an amount to be determined by the Board of Directors each calendar year. The committee will select the winners based on the merits of the applicant. Scholarship recipients will be selected in March. Recipients will be asked to attend HEA's Annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, May 6, 2021, for the Award Ceremony at Homer High School.

  • Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Chapter Safari Club International Scholarship

    Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International is a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, humanitarian efforts, and protecting our hunting heritage.  To further these goals, we will award a $4,000 scholarship to a graduation senior from any accredited public or private high school within the Kenai Peninsula Borough.  To be eligible, the student must be accepted into a program of wildlife management or research curriculum in a related field at an accredited college or university and enroll for a minimum of 12 semester hours or full-time equivalent.  A trade school or vocational program in a related discipline will be considered, and future teachers are eligible.

    This scholarship fund is established in memory of Vera Howarth, a long-time resident of Soldotna, member of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, and much-loved, devoted member of the community. Awards will be made to students with a positive-upbeat personality and demonstrated community involvement, including civic activities, volunteerism, a general willingness to participate and determination to overcome difficulties while retaining a positive attitude.

    Awards are made to support tuition and fees for post-High School Education. Awards must cover specified costs not covered by other grants or scholarships. Two (2) $1,500 scholarships will be awarded.

    Who:  Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Graduating Senior

    Amount:  Two $2,000 scholarships

    The Alaska Peace Officers Association (APOA) is a statewide professional organization of federal, state, and local law enforcement, 911 dispatch professionals, corrections, and other justice system personnel in Alaska.  The two scholarships will be awarded to two high school senior applicants.  The one-time disbursement is made to the recipient's college financial aid office.

    The essay will consist of a 1-2 page typed document (double spaced in times roman type 12 font) describing:  intended course of study; desire/pursuit of career in law enforcement; any leadership roles, community activities and school accomplishments; other significant experiences that the student has been involved in; and summary as to why the student is deserving of the one-time $2,000 scholarship.  Letters of reference/recommendation should fully support and reinforce leadership, school accomplishments, and community service and/or outside activities.

  • Masonic Visual Arts and Music 2021 Scholarship

Access to knowledge of soils, plants, climate and basic environmental principles and practices are integral to successful gardening. The Homer Garden Club is offering a $500 scholarship, which may be used for post-secondary training that would assist the applicant in learning and sharing the knowledge that can enhance successful gardening activities.

  • Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club Scholarship - GREATER KACHEMAK AREA ONLY

    Who:  Graduating Seniors in the Greater Kachemak Bay Area ONLY

    Amount:  $1,000 minimum

    The Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club is sponsoring scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year for applicants attending any academic institution OR vocational program, who demonstrate the best combination of financial need, career goals and Rotary principles.  A vocational program is defined as a program leading to an industry certificate, or other certificate of completion which would enable the recipient to obtain entry level career employment.  This need not be in a traditional vocational area such as welding or other trade, but may include culinary arts, specialized business training, or medical training such as nursing or EMT training; it need not be a degree program.

    Geographically, this includes Ninilchik and all school south of Ninilchik, as well as the Russian schools and schools across the Bay.
