Dr. Anderson was a dedicated physician to the residents of the central peninsula for 36 years. He delivered over 5,000 babies in that time and was also the only physician in the state who offered services for in vitro fertilization. He believed strongly in education and public service and was on the KPB School Board for 16 years. He also served on the Soldotna City Council and twice as mayor of Soldotna including at the time of his death. He was a strong advocate of Scouting and served many years as a scout master and in various other district scouting positions. 5 of his children graduated from SoHi. He believed in all types of post secondary training and as a result two types of scholarships will be funded - one for those pursuing an 4 year degree that could lead to a profession in a medically related to field and one for trade or vocational or trade school in a medically related field.

The Alaska Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) will be offering a scholarship to eligible students for the 2021-2022 school year. Graduating
Alaska High School Seniors who will
be enrolled at an accredited university as a full-time college student for the
Fall 2021 semester in a curriculum leading to an undergraduate degree in
engineering, including petroleum, chemical, mechanical, electrical,
environmental or civil, or an earth sciences field, and intend to seek
future employment in the petroleum industry.
