  • The George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest
    Expires On: Friday, January 31, 2020 7:00 PM

    Type: Contest

    Who:  Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students.

    Amount:  Up to $5,000

    To participate, students (grades 9-12) must submit an original 800- to 1,200-word essay based on an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution. Each student's essay will be judged based upon its historical accuracy, clarity, organization, grammar and spelling, and documentation.

    In Alaska, students will first compete at the State level.  The winning essay will then be entered into the National competition where the first place essay will earn $5000, a medal, and a trip to a recognition ceremony.  2nd and 3rd place also earn cash awards. 

    State-level awards include $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place with recognition certificates as well as a medal for the first place winner.

  • Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Program

    Amount:  Up to $30,000 over four-years

    The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Program is designed to address the financial needs of minority college students and provide comprehensive mentoring services through its 42 Strategies for Success Curriculum.  Once chosen from a national, selective process, "Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars" receive a generous four-year grant to assist with the costs of attending the college or university of their choice and are enrolled in JRF's celebrated mentoring curriculum.

  • 2020-21 Non-Resident Freshman Scholarships

    Who:  High School Juniors and Seniors

    Amount:  Up to $60,000

    Achievement Awards are automatic, merit-based scholarships based upon GPA and test scores. Award amounts will vary up to $60,000 (up to $15,000 per year renewable). These awards will be applied toward tuition only. All non-resident freshmen who submit an application for admission complete with self-reported high school GPA and test scores (sent directly from the testing company) are automatically considered.

    Who:  2020 graduating students enrolled full-time in a college, university, or vocational school during the 2019-20 academic year

    Amount:  $1,000

    The Rotary Club of Kenai will award two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to two 2020 graduating students enrolled full-time in a college, university, or vocational school during the 2019-20 academic year. Funds are paid directly to the registrar in the fall of 2020 and are to be applied toward tuition, fees, or texts.

  • Scholarships for Military Children Program
    Expires On: Monday, February 24, 2020 8:00 PM

    Type: Scholarship  

    Who:  Only students who possess a valid (not expired) U.S. Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card (DD Form 1173) and whose parent(s) are serving, or have served, in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard may apply for a scholarship.  

    Amount:  $2,000

    Applicants must ensure they possess the U.S. Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card as they must enter the 11 digit “benefits number” shown on the reverse of the card into their application. This requirement will not be waived. Applicants must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate program of study leading to a bachelor's degree at an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall term of 2020

  • Homer Electric Association Scholarship 2020

    Type: Scholarship

    Who:  Applicants shall be categorized as “seniors” or “others”. Seniors will be defined as applicants from a public or private secondary school within the HEA service area. Students in the “others” category will be defined as those individuals residing within the HEA service area who have chosen to return to college, trade school, apprenticeship, vocational or technical school after having been out of high school for a minimum of two years since graduation date.

    Amount:  Varies

    Homer Electric Association's (HEA) Scholarship Committee will award a number of scholarships for an amount to be determined by the Board of Directors each calendar year. The committee will select the winners based on the merits of the applicant. Scholarship recipients will be selected in March. Recipients will be asked to attend HEA's Annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2020, for the Award Ceremony at Soldotna High School.

    Thelma Robinson and Ilse Palmer were lifelong Nurses dedicated to their profession and very passionate about the progress of nursing in the future. The Thelma & Ilse Memorial Nursing Scholarship has been established to celebrate their memories, their love of Nursing, and to support students that are pursuing a career in Nursing.

    Eight scholarships will be offered.  One applicant will be chosen from Kenai, Nikiski, Soldotna, Homer, and Seward.  The others will be chosen from the district's small schools.  The committee recommends that should a "Large" high school fail to submit any applications then that scholarship would be awarded to an additional "Small School" applicant.
