  • 2020 Intertribal Agriculture Council's Tribal Land Steward Internship Program

    Amount:  Selected interns will engage in a 8-10 week paid internship between May and September 2020. Internships will require 40 hours of commitment per week and will be compensated at an hourly rate of $12.50.

    The IAC is recruiting innovative, collaborative, and focused high school and early college aged youth that are passionate about promoting the regeneration of natural resources within their communities. IAC will be offering up to 10 Tribal Land Steward Intern positions to American Indian youth across the country. It is the goal of IAC to keep these interns rooted in their home communities for a full summer of work embracing their interests in natural resources through a dynamic partnership with the NRCS.

    Who:  Only students who possess a valid (not expired) U.S. Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card (DD Form 1173) and whose parent(s) are serving, or have served, in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard may apply for a scholarship.

  • Homer Electric Association Scholarship 2020
    Expires On: Friday, February 28, 2020 8:00 PM

    Type: Scholarship

    Who:  Applicants shall be categorized as “seniors” or “others”. Seniors will be defined as applicants from a public or private secondary school within the HEA service area. Students in the “others” category will be defined as those individuals residing within the HEA service area who have chosen to return to college, trade school, apprenticeship, vocational or technical school after having been out of high school for a minimum of two years since graduation date.

    Homer Electric Association's (HEA) Scholarship Committee will award a number of scholarships for an amount to be determined by the Board of Directors each calendar year. The committee will select the winners based on the merits of the applicant. Scholarship recipients will be selected in March. Recipients will be asked to attend HEA's Annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2020, for the Award Ceremony at Soldotna High School.

  • 2020 Nels Anderson Scholarship

    Who:  Graduating High School Seniors

    Amount:  Recipients pursuing a four year post secondary education will receive a one-time $2,000.00 scholarship; OR recipients pursuing an education in a vocational/technical school will receive a one-time $1,000.00 scholarship.

    Dr. Anderson was a dedicated physician to the residents of the central peninsula for 36 years. He delivered over 5,000 babies in that time and was also the only physician in the state who offered services for in vitro fertilization. He believed strongly in education and public service and was on the KPB School Board for 16 years. He also served on the Soldotna City Council and twice as mayor of Soldotna including at the time of his death. He was a strong advocate of Scouting and served many years as a scout master and in various other district scouting positions. 5 of his children graduated from SoHi. He believed in all types of post secondary training and as a result two types of scholarships will be funded - one for those pursuing an 4 year degree that could lead to a profession in a medically related to field and one for trade or vocational or trade school in a medically related field.

    Who:  Students located in Petersburg, Seward or the Homer communities are invited to apply for a scholarship towards their vocational education.

    Eligible scholarship applicants must meet one of these three categories:

    1. Individuals of any age who are continuing their education at an accredited college or vocational school.
    2. Senior high students applying for admission to an accredited college or vocational school.
    3. Junior high or high school students through 11th grade applying for the Johns Hopkins CTY Program.

    The following criteria will be used to grant scholarships:
    • Applicant (or their parent) must be a member of Credit Union 1 for at least one year as of April 1, 2020.
    • Applicant must show financial need.
    • Applicant must have a good academic record (3.5 GPA and above).
    • Applicant must provide documentation of community involvement and/or extra-curricular activities (however, there is no minimum requirement of involvement).
    • Applicant must share details of how higher education will shape their future plans/goals.
