INSTRUCTIONS
A plan of career education concepts, activities and test evaluation procedures.

STEP 1The teacher/counselor will administer the pre test to the class in September. The purpose of this test is to determine the students’ understanding of basic Career Education concepts.
STEP 2The pre test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher/counselor. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records.)
STEP 3The teacher/counselor then begins to introduce the prepared concepts and activities to the class, placing particular emphasis on the items most frequently missed on the pre test.
STEP 4The post test is administered in April. The purpose of this test is to determine if a change occurred from the previous testing.
STEP 5The post test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records.

11Good work habits are necessary for success in school and in a job.Class compares good work habits in school to good work habits in a job. This record could be actual or a simulation experience.

11Being dependable is necessary for career success.Students list ways to prove their dependability to parents and teachers.

Appreciation and Attitudes

  1. People should work to support themselves.
  2. Family life styles may be affected when family members all work outside the home.
  3. Fewer mothers have jobs outside the home now than 20 years ago.

Self

  1. Every individual has interests and abilities that could contribute to society.
  2. If I have a talent for something, I should try to explore what I could do with that talent.
  3. It is possible to dislike a job you do well.

Decision Making

  1. Today’s decisions affect your future.
  2. Decisions I make now might be as important as decisions I will make in the future.
  3. Seventh graders do not have to make important decisions.

Educational

  1. Because I haven’t as yet decided on a career, there is no connection between my school subjects and my future career.
  2. School subjects and extra-curricular activities are related to career clusters.
  3. I should develop as many skills as I can because I don’t know which ones I may need.

Career

  1. Individual values affect career choices.
  2. My attitude toward the work now has nothing to do with work attitude in the future.
  3. My attitude and values will influence the kind of work I do.

Economic

  1. Keeping a record of how I spend my money could help me be a better manager of that money.
  2. Seventh graders are too young to manage money.
  3. Planning my expenses to fit within my own personal budget isn’t too important to me at this age.

Skill

  1. Being well organized in school is not as important as it will be in my future job.
  2. My physical education classes could help me develop physical skills I could use both now and later.
  3. Being able to communicate both in speaking and writing is a necessary skill.

Employability

  1. My future employer will be interested in my school attendance record.
  2. Being on time for class has nothing to do with being successful in a job.
  3. My chances of getting a babysitting job or a paper route are improved by a record of dependability at home and at school.
