Starve a Mosquito. Donate Blood.

blood driveStarve a Mosquito…Donate Blood. That's the theme for this year's annual SoHi Blood Drive. The event is organized and managed entirely by the Soldotna High School Honor Society students. "We had great participation last year because National Honor Students could obtain hours for donating blood. Students also earned additional hours for recruiting people to donate", explains Jessie Duke, Honor Society Vice President. National Honor Society students are required to earn hours in tutoring, community service and National Honor Society projects.

The SoHi Blood Drive is part of the Alaska High School Challenge, sponsored by The Blood Bank of Alaska. Organizers of the statewide event hope to increase awareness in the community about the importance of donating blood, help put an end to blood shortages, and allow high schools to compete with one another for recognition of saving the most lives in Alaska. The event will be held on September 28 from 8 am to 2 pm in Room 24 at Soldotna High School. Interested participants can contact Soldotna High School to schedule a time. "We will welcome walk-ins on that day, but an appointment will ensure you don't have a long wait time", said Angela Ramponi, Honor Society President.
