Professional Development for Paraprofessionals

Paraeducator TrainingSpecial education paraprofessionals from across the district recently took a break from their duties to attend a special presentation by guest speaker Padmaja Sarathy. Sarathy is the author of five books in the field of special education. She has also developed a music training CD for use with children with autism spectrum disorders. This training with paraprofessionals specifically addressed working with students with severe and multiple disabilities. Attendees increased their knowledge and skills to more effectively work with students with significant cognitive, communication, behavioral and motor needs. Director of Pupil Services, Clayton Holland, said, "The KPBSD is fortunate to have fantastic paraprofessionals who are highly skilled and devoted to our students. It was wonderful to have Padmaja provide this professional development opportunity to this great group of people."
