Service Learning

More than 650 students participated in the third annual Kenai River Spring Cleanup, collecting 2,965 pounds and trash and debris in a community collaboration with KPBSD, the Kenai River Professional Guide Association, Kenai River Sportfishing Association, and in cooperation with Alaska State Parks, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and the City of Soldotna.

Congratulations to Redoubt Elementary for taking top honors for the third year in a row with 1,440 pounds of trash collected! Students collected 2,965 pounds of trash and debris from Centennial Park, Soldotna Creek Park, Soldotna Park, Bing's Landing, Swiftwater Park, Rotary Park, Isaac Walton and Moose Range Meadows.

Service learning opportunities like these integrate meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich students' learning experience, meet and strengthen communities, and foster civic responsibility.

Many thanks to all the volunteers, donors, and especially the teachers and students that worked so hard cleaning up the river. #ServiceLearning
