School Counselors

KPBSD maintains staffing for school counselors at the middle and high school levels.  School counselors are Master's degree level educators credentialed by the State of Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.  School counselors design and deliver comprehensive school counseling programs that promote student achievement; they are an integral component of a school's academic mission.  Programs are driven by student data and are based on standards in academic, career and personal/social development.

Additional Resources

A number of additional resources are available to assist the KPBSD school counselors in the delivery of comprehensive school counseling programs. These resources often have a specific focus; access to students and classrooms should always be coordinated with the school counselor to avoid duplication of efforts and to ensure efficiency in order to minimize loss of classroom educational time.

KPBSD Career & Technical Education Department: Career Guidance Liaisons (CGL)

  • These grant-funded positions are KPBSD employees.  The position requires a minimum of two years of post-secondary education.  CGL's assist school counselors in advising students throughout the district about education and training opportunities available both during and after their high school careers.  A particular focus of the CGL's is to increase awareness of the Career and Technology programs available to KPBSD students and to assist KPBSD school counselors with the development of KPBSD Personal Learning and Career Plans (PLCP) for all students.

Peninsula Job Center: Employment Specialists

  • Job Center staff are State of Alaska Department of Labor Workforce Development employees. Employment Security Specialist's receive national certification in workforce development and other specialized training which qualifies them to work with students and job seekers in the central peninsula area developing skills in resume writing, work ethics, completing job applications and interviewing skills.

KPBSD Career Guidance Assistants
