Developmental Profile (DP)

The Alaska Developmental Profile (DP) is used to identify, record and summarize the skills and behaviors students demonstrate at the beginning of their kindergarten year based on teacher observations. The Developmental Profile is not intended to be used for the evaluation of individual students to determine their eligibility for any programs, including kindergarten, or for the evaluation of specific learning programs. The DP is given to kindergarten students in the fall. In addition, first grade students are given the DP only if they were not tested as kindergarteners. For more information, please speak with your child's kindergarten or first grade teacher.

English Language Proficiency Assessment

The English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) is used to monitor student progress in English language proficiency and to serve as a criterion to aid in determining when English Language Learners (ELLs) have attained full language proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Any student identified as a Limited English Proficiency (LEP) student in grades K-12 take the ELPA. The ELPA is assessed in the spring using the ACCESS testing tool.

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as "the Nation's Report Card," is the only nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas. The NAEP selects schools and students in grades 4, 8 and 12 using a sampling model to determine participation in reading, mathematics, science, writing, U.S. history, civics, geography and the arts assessments. The NAEP is tested on two-year cycle.

KPBSD District Assessments

AIMSweb is a form of curriculum-based measurement (CBM), used for universal screening three times a year and progress monitoring when needed in grades K-6. This form of brief assessment measures overall performance of key foundational skills at each grade level to provide accurate prediction of reading and math achievement as well as its sensitivity to growth. KPBSD assesses early literacy and math skills (TEL and TEN), reading fluency (R-CBM) and basic math computation (M-COMP). Assessments are given in Fall, Winter & Spring.
