INSTRUCTIONS
A plan of career education concepts, activities and test evaluation procedures.

STEP 1The teacher will administer the pre test to the class in September. The purpose of this test is to determine the students’ understanding of basic Career Education concepts.
STEP 2The pre test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records.)
STEP 3The teacher then begins to introduce the prepared concepts and activities to the class, placing particular emphasis on the items most frequently missed on the pre test.
STEP 4The post test is administered in April. The purpose of this test is to determine if a change occurred from the previous testing.
STEP 5The post test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records.

CAREER EDUCATION SURVEY FOR GRADE 3

DIRECTIONS TO THE TEACHER

Each student will receive an answer sheet. The teacher and/or aide reads each statement to students (preferably in small groups) and the students make a mark in the yes or no. . Observe markings closely.

Appreciation and Attitudes

  1. The mayor does the most important work in a city.
  2. The only important thing a citizen can do is vote.
  3. We depend on many different kinds of workers to meet our daily needs.

Self

  1. I can do some things very well.
  2. What I learn this year will be helpful after I finish school.
  3. I need to know how to count money.

Decision Making

  1. If you get hurt on the swings, you should not play on the swings again.
  2. There can be more than one way to solve a problem.
  3. When I make a choice that others don’t agree with, I should change my choice.

Educational

  1. The way I talk and act shows people what I’m like.
  2. Everyone needs to know math.
  3. When I have an idea I need my communication skills to tell others.

Career

  1. People living in different parts of our country may do different kinds of work.
  2. In California there are some jobs that we don’t have in Alaska.
  3. All jobs are alike in some ways.

Economic

  1. When I grow up I will need to work.
  2. People can work without getting paid with money.
  3. The only thing you can do with money is spend it.

Skill

  1. There are many jobs where you have to read and write.
  2. I can accomplish work without learning skills.
  3. When you can read and write well you will have more job choices.

Employability

  1. When I grow up, I may have to work with some people I won’t like.
  2. People who don’t like each other can learn to work together.
  3. Rules cause conflicts and problems.
