The need for a career education program throughout the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District was identified by the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Vocational Education. As a result of this need the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District determined to adopt a K-12 career education program.

A K-12 career education program includes awareness, exploration and development that involves all teachers and students. In addition, the career education program should reach 100 percent of the students, be systematic, have measurable outcomes and have a specified curriculum. In order to meet these requirements, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District revised and adapted a K-12 Career Education Curriculum originally developed by Joe Valenta for the Cedar Falls School District in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The objective of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District K-12 Career Education Curriculum is to provide students with age-appropriate information and experiences as they plan for careers. By helping students see the relevance in what they are learning, we equip them to apply learning to their own lives and to make informed career choices.
