“This is a bittersweet time of year with our staff. It is a time to celebrate the successes and growth we've all experienced throughout the district. It is also a time for transition. We are losing some excellent educators and support staff, and while it is sad they are leaving the district, it is also a time to be thankful for their contributions and also wish them well on their next adventure.

Caring for the Kenai #innovation #relevance

When Caring for the Kenai stepped into its twenty eighth year, Nikiski High School junior Carlee Rizzo took first place honors and a $1,600 cash award in the annual environmental and natural disaster preparedness contest. Carlee created an interactive presentation and video game to teach elementary school children that “it’s not too late to save the environment.”

Battle of the Books is a statewide reading and comprehension program sponsored by the Alaska Association of School Librarians. The goals of the program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, and promote academic excellence. All this is accomplished through a game-show style competition known simply as “BOB”.

Parents and guardians have a free opportunity for a screening to learn a child’s early development, motor skills, speech, early learning concepts, vision, and hearing for children ranging from newborn to age five (not yet in kindergarten) are offered this month. The annual KPBSD Mind A-Mazes challenge is oriented around an engineering problem and construction of a device which typically attempts to perform multiple tasks with consistency and accuracy, but the benefits of the challenge extend well beyond just engineering design.

Key Communicators will help people in their local communities know more about KPBSD, while also assisting our school district learn and understand more about what people think, feel, and know.
